Numeration
- Each place is a factor of 10: append k zeros to multiply by 10^k, drop them to divide. Shifting digits means ×10 or ÷10.
- Four zeros were appended to the right of a natural number. How many times bigger did it get? Each zero = multiplying by 10. 4 zeros = ×10000.
- How many hundreds are in a million? A hundred carries 2 zeros. Drop 2 zeros from 1000000 → 10000.
- What number comes right after 999999? A 9 "overflows" into 0 and passes a carry of 1 into a new place.
